Home Birth

Tonight we met with the midwives who are going to deliver the baby when she decides she's ready to come (hopefully in about 4-6 weeks! Yaiks!). We have decided to have her at home, though I did have to convince Seb that it was a good idea :o) I don't know why, but right from when I realised that I was pregnant and started to think about our options, a home birth sounded like the right thing for me. I have never met anyone who had their children at home, and I don't remember where I got the idea.

But a homebirth it will be. We're going to use a birth pool like the one below, the midwife delivered it today so it's ready to be blown up when the birth starts.

Tonight Iluka asked why the women were there and I told her that we were talking about them helping me give birth to her little sister. "Now?!?" she asked, always impatient :o)

I am so happy that it is possible to have my child at home and I look forward to a very different birthing experience. Not that having Iluka at the hospital was necessarily a bad experience, but I think this birth will be better for me and my family. I think Seb is getting more comfortable with the idea too.

I can't believe that I am having another baby so soon. I think Iluka is getting excited, but of course she doesn't understand what it will mean in reality to become a big sister. She often asks "Kommer babyen NU?!" (Is the baby coming NOW?) and although I am pretty fed up with this big belly, now is a little bit too soon. Maybe the snow will have started to melt a bit by the time she arrives - I certainly hope so...

Cooooooooool!!!
You're brave but I think it's a great idea - I've met people who've given birth at home and were raving about it so I'm sure you've made the right decision. And Iluka's so cute, bless her xxx

I just watched a documentary about a home birth a few days ago, and it looked really, really beautiful and calm. The baby was born into water, and it seemed to be so much less of a shock for him than being born into a sterile, brightly lit hospital room!!!

Enjoy the last few weeks of pregnancy!
